DIN 980 All-Metal Prevailing Torque Lock Nut

Description

1. Standards
DIN 985 / DIN 982 (Nylon Insert Type), DIN 980 (All-Metal Type), equivalent to GB 889 prevailing torque lock nuts.

2. Available Sizes
M2–M36. Common stock sizes include M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, and M16.

3. Materials
Zinc-plated carbon steel
Stainless steel 304 / 316
Nylon insert types equipped with a PA66 high-temperature-resistant nylon ring

4. Locking Principle
Nylon insert type: The nylon ring creates friction by compressing the bolt threads.
All-metal type: Localized thread deformation generates prevailing torque for reliable locking.
Designed to resist loosening under vibration and dynamic loads, making them widely used in automotive, electric motors, machinery, and vibration-prone equipment.

5. Selection Guide
(1) Nylon Insert Lock Nuts (DIN 982 / DIN 985)
Suitable for general-purpose applications at normal operating temperatures
Provides reliable locking without damaging bolt threads

(2) All-Metal Lock Nuts (DIN 980)

Suitable for high-temperature and oil-exposed environments
Recommended for demanding industrial and severe operating conditions where nylon inserts are unsuitable.
